I'm a pretty miserable sonuvabitch. I've wasted large parts of my life, and the bits I didn't waste haven't turned out as I'd have liked. This song is all about growing up and finding yourself in a job you loathe, having watched your dreams float away down the river, and I love it.
The second half of the middle 8 (middle 16?) is nigh-on shouted with such conviction and emotion:
Well, fuck them. They ("the man") want us all to be sheep. Sheep have a strong instinct to follow the leader. Someone has to be that leader. It seems unlikely that leader will work in Tesco.
